Covid-19 rapid testing kits for use at home are now available to be collected from six sites in South Gloucestershire. This is in addition to parents of young people attending nurseries, schools and colleges being able to order test kits to be delivered to their home and being able to take a test at one of three rapid testing sites in the district.

Statement by South Gloucestershire Council’s director of public health on the discovery of local cases of a new Covid-19 variant. This follows an announcement by Matt Hancock, secretary of state for health and social care, that 11 cases of “mutations of concern” have been identified in the Bristol area.

South Gloucestershire Council says it supports the announcement of England’s latest national lockdown which began today (Tuesday 5th January 2021) and is appealing to residents in the area to make sure they are fully aware of the new rules and ‘Stay home, protect the NHS and save lives’.

A pilot programme to test college students who are not showing any symptoms for Covid-19 will begin in South Gloucestershire this week. As part of its measures to help the district move out of the Tier 3 alert level, South Gloucestershire Council is also launching a local contact tracing service.

South Gloucestershire’s first coronavirus community testing facility is set to open on Thursday 1st October at the University of the West of England’s Frenchay Campus. It will provide more capacity for local residents, and also for students at the university.

South Gloucestershire Council has issued a range of information and guidance materials to support the increasing number of informal and formal community groups that are springing up in neighbourhoods across the district to help those having to self-isolate.
