Waste and recycling collections in South Gloucestershire are being impacted by strike action being taken by employees of Suez, the council’s waste contractor. The strike began today, Monday 12th June, and is set to run until Sunday 18th June, with a second phase spanning two weeks planned from Monday 26th June until Sunday 9th July.

Lib Dems and Labour agree coalition to run South Gloucestershire Council
The Lib Dems and Labour have finally agreed to form a coalition to run South Gloucestershire Council. The alliance will replace the Conservatives who were in power since 2015 but lost their overall majority at the polls on Thursday 4th May, although they remain the largest single group with 23 councillors compared with 20 Liberal Democrats and 17 Labour members.

South Gloucestershire Council has announced that three of its four Sort It recycling centres will reopen on Saturday 16th May after being temporarily closed due to the coronavirus emergency.
Sort It recycling centres at Mangotsfield, Thornbury and Yate will open with some restrictions around the type of waste that can be disposed of, and essential social distancing measures in place to keep people safe.
