South Gloucestershire Council is looking for nominations for its annual sports awards which recognise the dedication and contribution local people make to sport across the district.
Cllr Claire Young, Chair of the Communities Committee, said:
“2012 has been a great year for sporting achievement in Great Britain and we’re really looking forward to celebrating and recognising the local talent we have here in South Gloucestershire. The sports awards, now in their 11th year, help to raise the profile of sport and acknowledge the achievements of everyone involved, from local clubs to coaches, the community and our schools. If you know someone who deserves to be recognised for their achievements then why not nominate them today?”
Nominations are open until Friday 27th September in the following categories:
- Sportsperson of the year
- Aspiring young sportsperson of the year
- Aspiring young disabled sportsperson of the year
- Veteran sportsperson of the year
- Coach of the year
- Young coach of the year
- Club of the year
- Contribution to inclusive sport award
- Contribution to creating an Olympic and Paralympic legacy
- James Clifford memorial award – awarded to sporting and leisure industry professionals for innovation, creativity and/or provision of excellent customer service
- Personal achievement award – sponsored by the Active Partnership
- Community sport award – sponsored by Airbus in the UK
The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 8th November at the BAWA Club in Filton and will be presented by BBC Radio Bristol sports presenter Geoff Twentyman.
