Residents in Thornbury are set to benefit from a revamped library thanks to investment by South Gloucestershire Council (SGC).
Continuing its programme of building improvements, the council is committing an initial £10,000 to the project which will include internal decoration, new shelving and seating, improved layout of the library including the provision of an IT Learning suite and improved signage for the library.
Looking forward to the refurbishment Cllr Heather Goddard, executive councillor for communities, said: “We are continuing with our programme of library investment and Thornbury is part of this.
“We are trying to tie in these improvements with the work that is nearing completion on identifying what the options are in terms of improved library provision in the town going forward into the future, taking into account the tough public spending environment we are in. For instance, much of the updated fittings and furniture could be transferred if the library eventually moves.”
To allow for the work to take place the library will be closed from Monday 27th September for three weeks, reopening on Monday 18th October. While the library is closed for its mini-makeover books will be issued for a longer period and customers will be given details of alternative libraries they can use.
Thornbury Library is one of South Gloucestershire’s main libraries and has just celebrated a very successful Summer Holiday programme with more than 500 children taking part.
Following the reopening, the library has an exciting autumn programme of activities including an evening with popular close harmony singing group Fascinating Rhythm, a healthy eating cookery demonstration, a talk by local author Richard Cornock on his life in Tytherington and, in December, around the world cyclist, Astrid Domingo Molyneux will share her experiences of her life changing trip.
