Barrs Court Primary School in Longwell Green is celebrating after again being rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors.
The South Gloucestershire school was inspected last month and inspectors found many areas of outstanding achievement describing Barrs Court Primary as ‘an exceptional school’.
The inspectors were particularly impressed with the ‘very positive atmosphere’ found throughout the school and the ‘exceptionally strong relationships’ between pupils and staff.
Pupils made ‘outstanding progress’ during their time at the school and nearly all pupils meet or exceed their challenging targets.
The pupils’ personal development was also judged ‘outstanding’ and they display ‘an enviable generosity of spirit’ through environmental work and supporting a wide range of charities. The behaviour of pupils in lessons and around the school was found to be impeccable.
The report also praised the outstanding teaching and the exciting curriculum, whilst the leadership of the school was described as ‘clear, purposeful and ambitious’ and that headteacher Mrs Barbara Fox, led the school with ‘unflagging enthusiasm and determination’.
Importantly, the school’s capacity for further improvement was also found to be ‘outstanding’. This is due to ‘highly accurate’ school self-evaluation and a total absence of complacency.
The governing body was found to support the school well and plays a key role in safeguarding, however, inspectors found that it still had work to do regarding fully evaluating the work of the school and setting school priorities.
Parents agree with the inspectors’ high opinion of the school with many praising the excellent academic standards achieved by pupils and the quality of the care, support and guidance.
Cllr Sheila Cook, executive member for children and young people, said: “I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to Barrs Court Primary School after yet another outstanding Ofsted report. The report is testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone associated with the school, especially the headteacher, her staff and all the pupils and parents.”
Headteacher, Mrs Barbara Fox, said: “We are delighted that the Ofsted inspectors have recognised what a wonderful school Barrs Court Primary is and seen the children’s exemplary behaviour and attitudes to learning their exciting curriculum.”
