Residents from some areas of South Gloucestershire are being invited to have their say on a review of community governance.
The review includes creating, merging or altering parishes in certain areas to ensure they reflect the communities they represent.
Cllr Shirley Potts, Chair of South Gloucestershire Council’s Regulatory Committee, said:
“We know that the development of strong, sustainable communities depends on our residents’ active participation in decision making and making a positive contribution to improving the place where they live. We are committed to enabling local people to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives and value their opinions. We therefore hope that residents will take the time to get involved in this consultation.”
Not all areas will be affected, but around half our residents will be involved in the consultation which considers amending some parish boundaries and reviewing un-parished areas to see if they would like to join parished areas or become parished in their own right.
Consultation began on 17th August and will ask communities for views about the possible changes that might affect them. If the majority say ‘yes’ to change, a more detailed round of 12-week consultations will be needed in some of the areas, including discussions at area forums and holding community events in the localities affected.
A community governance review gives the authority the opportunity to review and make changes to community governance within their area, whilst ensuring that the recommendations made in the review bring about improved community engagement, more cohesive communities, better local democracy and result in more effective and convenient delivery of local services. Government recommends that it is good practice to conduct a full review at least every 10 to 15 years and keep the area under review in the interim.
Areas included in the review include: Bitton, Chedworth, Winterbourne, Emersons Green, Hanham, Willsbridge, Rangeworthy, Pilning, Severn Beach, Sodbury, Siston, Stoke Lodge, Kingswood and Staple Hill.

Politicians lose the trust of the people so what’s the remedy they come up with? Create even more bleedin politicians to ponce off the public purse.
“More cohesive communities”?!!! What, by implementing the recommendation of Cameron’s favourite hard-of-thinkingtank, LOLicy Exchange, to flog off social housing?
