Appeal after men barge into pensioner’s home (Alveston)

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after two men forced their way into a 79-year-old woman’s home in Alveston on the night of Thursday 3rd March.

The lady answered the door at about 7pm after hearing someone knocking repeatedly. Two white men, wearing dark-coloured clothing, then pushed their way in, knocking her to the floor, before taking cash from her handbag.

The lady was so distressed it was only later that she was able to report the incident later to a neighbour.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Quarry Road area of Alveston or who has any other information about who was responsible for this callous crime to call South Gloucestershire CID on 0845 456 7000.

Alternatively contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call.

Neighbourhood Inspector Deryck Rees said: “Thankfully this sort of incident is very rare. The neighbourhood team will be in touch with the lady to offer her support and the Bobby van will be asked to visit to offer security improvements.”
