South Gloucestershire police have helped to fund a free football skills session for young people in Kingswood.
The two-hour session for up to 50 youngsters has been organised by the Kings Meadow Community Flats committee.
Committee member Chris Ray said: “Without the funding from the police and the free use of Kingswood Leisure Centre thanks to South Gloucestershire Leisure this could not have happened. If this taster session proves popular we’ll try to run some more.”
The £100 police contribution has covered the cost of two football coaches to run the session between 7 and 9pm on Friday April 16 2010 at Kingswood Leisure Centre.
It is open to any young person from the age of eight from the Kings Meadow area to just turn up on the night.
Neighbourhood Police Community Support Officer Nick Pearce said: “We are happy to support this sort of community event, and the neighbourhood team will be at the leisure centre on the night.
“It’s a really positive way for us to get to know young people and their parents. Young people are part of the community too, and we need to make sure we understand their concerns.”
The neighbourhood team can be contacted at Staple Hill Police Station on 0845 456 7000 or by e-mailing ssnstaplehill@avonandsomerset.police.uk.
