Appeal for witnesses after incident of dangerous driving (Almondsbury)

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after an incident of dangerous driving in Almondsbury.

The incident occurred on Friday 12th March 2010 at around 11.30am when the victim was travelling on the M5 towards the M4 interchange at junction 15. She was in a white Fiat Punto with her son and daughter.

As the driver negotiated her way around the Almondsbury interchange in lane three a white Ford Mondeo caught up with her at speed and then followed her around the same path she was taking. The driver was clearly impatient to pass and made several gestures with his waving arms.

For the next few minutes the Mondeo followed the Punto in the same lane at a very close distance. The driver of the Punto was unable to find a safe place to pull aside and allow the Mondeo past and so the Mondeo driver remained close behind waving and gesturing with his arms.

Eventually the Mondeo driver undertook the Punto before pulling in front sharply. This caused the Punto driver to brake heavily. The Mondeo slowed to a stop in lane three in front of the Punto which had also to stop. At this time both vehicles were stopped in lane three of the motorway as it joined the M4 Eastbound with traffic having to swerve out of lane three to avoid a collision.

Anyone who was in the area at the time is asked to contact the roads policing unit on 0845 456 7000 or call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
